CCI clears Nokia's proposed purchase of Alcatel-Lucent
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved Nokia’s proposed acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent.
CCI is of the view that the transaction is unlikely to have an adverse impact on competition in the country’s telecom market. This is because the two companies' operations in India are largely complementary in nature. Nokia is present in the mobile infrastructure segment while Alcatel deals with fixed line services, with only limited operations in mobile infrastructure. Also, bidding information provided by the two companies for 2012 - 2015 reveal that there were no instances in which these companies were the only bidders.
Nokia had announced the all-stock deal worth $16.6 billion in April 2015.
